For HigherEd institutions, about 50% of new LMS implementations were cloud-hosted by 2010. For K-12 school districts, they crossed the 50% mark a bit later in 2012.
With CANHEIT-ARC 2019 just around the corner, we thought of looking at trends in system implementations within Canadian institutions.
For MOOCs, we can clearly see the rapid rise of the participating institutions until 2016. Since then, we see a flattening, not a crash.
Degree type is a good indicator of SIS product selection but not as good an indicator as total enrollment size.
Not surprisingly, Google and Microsoft have the most data largely due to their email systems. Google also has a significant amount of K12 LMS data because of the popular Classroom system.
Career Readiness Solutions have an upwards trend in the number of implementations that clearly started in 2012.
The K-12 market is more fragmented than the higher ed market. Many of the same players are present, but there are several K-12 focused vendors as well, most notably Google Classroom, Edmodo, Khan Academy and Schoology.
