Wiley to Acquire Knewton’s Assets, Marking an End to an Expensive Startup Journey

Wiley has agreed to acquire the assets of Knewton in a deal which is expected to close by the end of May. Although the deal is framed as a win for affordable courseware, it seems Knewton’s investors would have liked to see a higher price tag for the transaction.

Seeing its education publishing business shrink over the years, Wiley has recently expanded its digital services business. The purchase of Knewton would mark Wiley’s first acquisition of a digital courseware provider.
